30 Years Independent: The Mr. CAP Story
Houston, TX: In an industry that measures careers in album cycles, Mr. CAP has been building for over thirty years. From the neighborhoods of South Park to the stages of Warehouse Live, from physical tape distribution to blockchain-powered NFTs, the arc of his career reads like a blueprint for independent artistic survival.
Cornelius A. Pratt, known to Houston as Mr. CAP, grew up in the same South Park neighborhood that produced some of the city's most influential underground voices. As an Original Member of the South Park Coalition alongside K-Rino, Point Blank, and Klondike Kat, he was part of a movement that proved Houston hip-hop could thrive without major label infrastructure.
"We didn't have a model to follow," Mr. CAP recalls. "We just knew that if we owned it, nobody could take it. That was the foundation of everything."
